Amritsar
Amritsar is a historic and culturally significant city located in the northwestern Indian state of Punjab. It is best known for being the spiritual and cultural center of the Sikh religion and is home to the iconic Golden Temple, the holiest Gurudwara (Sikh place of worship).
The Golden Temple, also known as Harmandir Sahib, is a breathtaking architectural marvel made of gold and surrounded by a serene water body called the Amrit Sarovar. It attracts millions of devotees and visitors from around the world who come to experience its spiritual ambiance and pay their respects. The temple complex also houses the Akal Takht, a seat of Sikh religious authority.
Amritsar is steeped in history, particularly related to the Sikh faith and India’s struggle for independence. The Jallianwala Bagh, a public garden near the Golden Temple, is a poignant memorial that commemorates the massacre of peaceful protestors by the British in 1919. The site serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made during India’s freedom struggle.
Another prominent attraction in Amritsar is the Wagah Border, which separates India and Pakistan. Every evening, a flag-lowering ceremony takes place at the border, attracting crowds who witness the energetic display of patriotism and military showmanship.
The city is also famous for its vibrant bazaars and bustling street life. The streets of Amritsar are lined with shops selling traditional Punjabi clothing, handicrafts, and mouthwatering Punjabi cuisine. The local markets are especially known for their textiles, including Phulkari embroidery and traditional juttis (footwear).
Amritsar is renowned for its rich culinary traditions, with Punjabi cuisine being a highlight. Visitors can indulge in a variety of delicious dishes such as Amritsari kulcha, butter chicken, and lassi, among others.
Overall, Amritsar offers a captivating blend of spirituality, history, and cultural heritage. It provides a glimpse into Sikh traditions, showcases significant historical landmarks, and treats visitors to mouthwatering cuisine, making it a must-visit destination in India for those seeking a unique and enriching experience.
Hiking

We think of the mountainous region of HIMACHAL PRADESH, of RAJASTHAN with its long MOGHUL history, we think of the cities along the GANG with their ceremonies and also GOA, which have so much more to offer than just the numerous beaches. KERALA, TAMIL NADU and many more are waiting to be discovered by you.
